1. What is CSR?
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) refers to a self-regulation that companies integrate in their corporate governance to ensure that their business operations are ethical and beneficial for society and the environment. The Triple Bottom Line is used as a guiding framework which measures a company’s success based on its social, environmental and economic impact (also known as the 3Ps - People, Planet, Profit). Apart from solving real-world problems, a smart CSR strategy can cut costs, increase customer loyalty, foster the support & satisfaction of involved communities and improve employee engagement & satisfaction which inherently leads to a lower turnover rate. All of that ultimately translates into a more stable business and more sustainable value creation.
There is no one-size-fits-all CSR approach which means businesses can be creative about the initiatives they choose to undertake. A CSR strategy is often the result of the company’s corporate values, legal requirements, customer and investor demands.
